The perceptual system of cetaceans is based on acoustic signals. They use echolocation for spatial orientation. Submarines and boats emit signals at frequencies that dolphins perceive, but the signals from them are louder, thus these signals become a source of stress and acoustic trauma — affecting the dolphin's inner ear — the organ of navigation and hearing. The animal becomes "blind".
